FRANK LAMPHERE BIOGRAPHY
CHICAGO, June 22, 2019 - Jazz crooner-songwriter Frank Lamphere is in the studio recording his latest CD "America, Swinging". The EP will include his original compositions Las Vegas with a thunderous ten-piece horn section and the swinging baseball anthem And the Cubs Go All the Way. Unique covers of: America, the Beautiful, Born Free and This Guy's In Love With You will also be standouts on the disc.
Frank Lamphere is a professional singer in the highly specialized genre known as traditional pop. (Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Jack Jones) Vast portions of his performances and repertoire are presented in big band and straight-ahead jazz style, and always with a live band.
His musical journey began at a young age singing along to records. By the 1980s karaoke came about, allowing would be singers the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience. Frank did well in this arena and eventually hooked a three month gig. Mini sets with an Italian wedding band and sit-ins with such local, Chicago musical luminaries as: pianists Buddy Charles and Billy Pierce, to bands like those of Tony Smith and Jim Beebe. These experiences helped lead to somewhat steady vocal work with the Johnny Gabor Trio, at the Flame of Countryside. On off-nights, hanging out at jam sessions, cocktails aside, Frank would soak-up stories, wisdom and methods of top jazz musicians. In a short while Frank had the confidence to seek work of his own; and did he find it! A steady stream of club and hotel work (lasting about ten years) ensued; all the while learning, improving, forming. It’s worth noting that Lamphere has a day job. Deck carpenter-contractor and owner of A-Affordable Decks, 27 years in business as of 2019.
In time, Frank grew a bit tired of the club scene. He wanted to take his performance to the next level and believed this could best happen while working with a larger band. So Rat Pack Jazz was born. Lamphere started by recording a full length album "Ain't Love a Kick" (attracting national attention), sang with other prominent bands, advertised his services in magazines and began bringing in work from non-club sources, from all over the country. Instead of singing to 45 listeners in a little club, Frank now had his own powerhouse band, performing to 300-500 attendees of a fundraiser or corporate dinner-dance.
Even if it mean't not working as much, Lamphere never had the desire to perform solo. That is, using background tracks (like many in the business) to secure more work. He has insisted on performing with a live band (a trio minimally) and has consistently had a strong following in his club appearances.
His many accomplishments include: radio and television commercials, performed in plenty of shows (including headlining) across the Midwest, New York and Milan, Italy. Frank’s EP of original songs Frank Swings, (2012) is still being heard on radio stations around the world. One of the songs from the EP (I Never Forgot), was featured prominently in the award-winning independent film Theresa Is a Mother. Frank has been hired across the U.S. to sing for special occasions, birthday parties, wedding receptions and much corporate work. His entertaining services are more in-demand than ever.
Lamphere, who lives in the Chicago area, is married and has two children
